What Weather Does to a Label — and Why a Dome Survives It
Every weatherproof-label search starts with a label that failed outside. These are the reasons, and what the dome changes.
Sun & UV
Inks under thin laminate bleach out in one or two seasons. The UV-stabilized polyurethane dome blocks UV and keeps color for years.
Rain, snow & humidity
Water creeps under the edge of a flat label. The dome fully encapsulates the print and seals the edge.
Salt & wash-down
Salt spray and pressure washing strip laminates. The sealed resin surface simply sheds them.
Heat & cold cycling
Freeze-thaw and engine heat crack rigid coatings. The slightly elastic dome stays bonded from -40°F to 180°F.
Abrasion
Grit, gloves and tools scuff flat labels cloudy. The thick dome is self-healing against light scratches.
Curved & textured surfaces
Flexible dome plus 3M high-tack adhesive bonds to powder-coat, cast housings and curved guards.

Weatherproof Labels FAQ
What makes a label truly weatherproof?
Three things have to hold up at once: the ink must not fade in sun, the surface must not let water in, and the edges must not lift. A domed label solves all three by sealing the printed film under a thick, clear polyurethane resin dome. The dome is UV-stabilized so it does not yellow or fade, it is completely waterproof, and it seals the label edge — the usual starting point for peeling. Rated -40°F to 180°F.
Are weatherproof stickers and weatherproof labels the same product?
Yes — the construction is identical; the word just depends on who is asking. Product manufacturers, equipment makers and packaging buyers say "labels"; makers, shops and individuals say "stickers". Either way you get a printed polyester/vinyl face sealed under a polyurethane dome, cut to your shape, with a choice of standard or 3M industrial adhesive.
How long do weatherproof domed labels last outdoors?
Years. Because the print is fully encapsulated and the resin is UV-stabilized, outdoor life is measured in years rather than seasons — unlike laminated vinyl, which typically fades and lifts within one or two. The label usually outlasts the surface it is applied to. Indoors, longer still.
Will they survive rain, snow, salt and pressure washing?
Yes. The dome is 100% waterproof: rain, snow, salt spray, humidity and wash-down never reach the ink. They are used on marine equipment, outdoor power equipment, HVAC units, generators, trailers and signage that get hosed down or left in the weather permanently.
Do UV-resistant labels yellow over time?
Epoxy domes do — they amber within a season or two of direct sun. We use polyurethane resin specifically because it is UV-stabilized and stays water-clear for years. That is the single biggest difference between a cheap dome and a weatherproof one.
What is the minimum order for weatherproof labels?
None — order one prototype or thousands. Per-piece price falls steeply with quantity: a typical 2-inch label runs roughly $2.45 each at 100 pieces and under $0.80 each at 1,000. Exact prices for your size are calculated instantly online. Production takes about 5 business days after proof approval, then ships to the US and Canada.
